Your communication was most welcome. We do apologize for our delay in responding and appreciate you taking the time to contact us regarding our Hebrew National® Franks.
Hebrew National does not use any wheat gluten, rye or barley in any of our products, except for our newest product; Hebrew National Beef Franks in a Blanket do contain wheat and gluten because of the puff pastry. This product is produced in a dedicated room on dedicated lines at the plant.
We would like to share some information that will be helpful for any our our ConAgra Foods products so you can determine whether or not the product contains gluten. The flour used in our products is often wheat flour and should be avoided by individuals with gluten sensitivities. Some fermented or distilled products, such as vinegar, may be derived from wheat. We suggest you speak with your physician to determine if you need to avoid distilled products derived from wheat, rye, barley, or oats. We always advise consumers who may have sensitivities to recheck the ingredient list on each package. Products are oftentimes reformulated and the ingredients may change.
The Food and Drug Administration has rules we are required to follow regarding labeling. If we add a common allergen, it is listed on the ingredient statement even if it appears in small quantities. We do purchase certain ingredients from suppliers, and they are required to comply with the identical FDA regulations pertaining to labeling. We periodically audit our suppliers to ensure that their labels are current and in full compliance with all FDA and USDA regulations. In addition, ConAgra Foods labels separately, in bold, these Top 9 Food Allergens on their products: Milk, Egg, Wheat, Soy, Peanut, Tree Nuts, Sesame, Crustacean Shell Fish, Fish.
